The Whole Story

This blog is about my extraordinarily difficult experience with Featherlite Wigs.  It starts with some reviews I have found online about this company, reviews that corroborate some of my concerns.  This is followed by my own story.  Unfortunately, because of the reverse-chronological format, if you want to read the whole story, you need to start here: BEGINNING and go backwards.  Don't let me spoil the ending for you….   :)

  1. i sent Isadore an email a couple of months ago because i wanted to buy 3 pieces at the same time. my budget was literally 12-15 thousand dollars. and she didn't bother to answer me. at the time i was annoyed with her but now i'm so glad i didn't get involved with her!!!

  3. Whoa. But what does that tell you about her business that she let go of such a big potential buyer? Is this just disorganization? Or what?

  4. Holy hell what a nightmare. Congratulations on getting your money back. People don't deserve to be ripped off like this.

  5. I followed your story on wigsupport. Unbelievable. And that Tess woman is batshit crazy. LOL! Honestly when I was reading the whole thing I was thinking your money was gone forever because of Isadore being in Israel so good for you for not letting her get away with that. She has destroyed her own business and reputation.

    1. Thanks. I think Tess may have been Isadore herself, or maybe a friend or family member. Someone with a close connection.

  6. Good job girl! I got scammed by her 2 years ago I ordered and nothing came. Had to do a chargeback also. Terrible business!

    1. I don't know. It's sad because her products were my favourite for so long. I really miss them, honestly!

  9. The part that bothers me is her rude responses to you. Every company makes mistakes. Its how they handle them that defines the quality of the company and Isadore did not handle this right at all. She was so rude and disrespectful!

    1. Yes, she was really angry with me, and I wonder if she genuinely didn't know that she wasn't selling virgin hair. I still don't really know what happened, and probably never well.

  10. OH MY GOD I just read the whole thing. The best part? Isadore telling you that you make stupid decisions because you are scared of her!! LOLOLOLOLOL!! Thank you for writing this. It was a great read, funny story, good warning for other customers.

    1. Yes, that part was super weird. I still have no idea what she meant by that. Why would I be scared to contact her?

  11. Please dont stop sharing this story with other women on the FB site even though some people will try to stop you. This needs to be shared.

    1. Thanks for saying that. I think I've offended a couple of her regular clients by telling my story, which is hard because I don't want to offend anyone. I just want people to know what they could be getting into - and how to resolve it if it turns out badly.

  12. Hey,
I wanted to tell you that I admire you for putting this together to help protect other women and help them get helpl for the same kind of situation. The hair industry is so bad for taking advantage of people who are too ashamed to speak out when they get scammed. I can't even tell you how many times I've been scammed by merchants selling fake "virgin" hair, and just accepted it as part of the process, but it shouldn't be!! After reading this I know I won't accept it ever again. It's good to know there is recourse when we get scammed and thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing how. <3

  15. You really persevered in this situation where a lot of people would have given up. I'm sorry you went through it but I'm glad you won your case.

  16. Thank you! I'm glad too. There was a lot of learning I took from the whole situation.

  20. Buyer beware times a million. That is way too much money to spend on hair. You could get ten pieces for that price and probably better since this one was obviously a fake. The reason it wont dye is because she has stripped off the cuticles. Thats also why it feels slippery and non-tangly. Its probably chemically treated Mongolian hair.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Is that right? Is that how chemically treated Mongolian hair would be? I was under the impression chemically treated hair would be more dry and tangly, but I don't really know. It makes sense that the cuticles are stripped to prevent tangling, but why would that prevent it from being dyed? Thanks for the info!

    2. I did, thank you! I have three HH wigs now that are all really nice: a Fortune wefted, a Milano hand-tied pony, and a hand-tied piece that I bought used from a friend (can't remember the name of the company). I also have one synthetic topper that I use for exercise with a headband and other casual things when I don't want to mess up the good stuff. :) I'm SO much happier with these pieces that I can't believe I wasted so much money on Featherlite in the past. I got four pieces with money left over with my refund for the Featherlite disaster.

    1. Her hair is VERY expensive (4K for the topper I ordered!!) so there is no excuse for it not to be what she claims it is. People deserve better. So if that's the case then I am glad to have the opportunity to prevent people from wasting their money, and more importantly, to prevent people from going through unnecessary stress and heartache.

  25. She still sells sheitels but secretly now and on a very small scale. You did a wonderful thing by stopping her from distributing her garbage worldwide. תודה

    1. Thanks for your message. It has been almost a year since my adventure ended, and being a year away from it has really given me a new perspective. When all this was going on I was angry and really wanted to shine a light on what was happening because it was so wrong.

Now I'm thinking instead about how much I have learned since then by joining online groups that discuss these things, and share their learning with each other. After all this happened I was so worried about finding another hair vendor - and since then I have found two. Both of them were honest and sold me what I paid for. And I paid FAR less than I did with Featherlite. In fact I'm still ahead because I haven't spent all the money I got back, and I have two lovely pieces that are working perfectly.

So while I can never say I appreciate the way Isadore treated me, I am so grateful that my bank got my money back for me! And I am especially grateful to all the women I have met as a result of this experience who have taught me so much. If this hadn't happened, I would still be buying the same overpriced product, which isn't as good as I thought it was.

As for her, I am not interested (anymore) in stopping her from selling sheitels. I hope she also got some perspective from the experience about knowing the quality of what she is selling, and more importantly, about treating her customers with respect. In the end, that was the part that bothered me the most, the rudeness. But if she didn't learn anything, I am satisfied that I have done my best to share my experience and share it with others who can learn from it. And maybe she will make a better product, and become a better vendor as a result. Here's hoping!

  26. How long do you have to file a claim before it's too late? I think she dissolved her company to stop other people from being able to get their money back. I am probably going to have to sue to get mine.

    ReplyDelete

    1. It depends on the policies set out by your credit card company. I suggest you call your CC company and ask some questions. I was planning to sue too, and then found out that this was a much better option. Good luck!

  27. I can tell you what you have here. You have Chinese hair that has been stripped of it's color and soaked in an acid bath to dissolve the cuticles. Thats why the hairs are super thin but resistent to curling because they retain that Chinese texture of being strong and super straight. It's stripped Chinese hair with no cuticles. Did you ever wonder why her factory is in China? Makes sense right. A lot of time they source this hair from floor sweepings and mix it with goat hair! Basically it cant be virgin hair because its original color was black. It takes some serious processing to get black hair to look like a European color which damages it to the point it can't absorb any dye. It's soaked in silicone to try and make it seem silky and not damaged but the silicone is like plastic so it prevents hair dye from sticking to the hair fibers.

    1. Floor sweepings and goat hair! Okay, this made me laugh. I have no idea if that's the case or not, but I do believe that we have no idea what really goes on, and that means we have to place some trust in our vendors. And those vendors have to behave ethically to deserve that trust. When they break that trust, I think it's our responsibility to share that information with other women to protect them from being scammed. What a thought, picturing myself walking around wearing goat hair on my head! :)
