Step seven

I have been watching PayPal's website like a hawk, hoping for a conclusion to this chargeback.  Today it abruptly jumped from step four (Paypal specialist reviews seller's response) to step seven (Credit Card company evaluates the case).  This step was not visible when I previously looked at this screen, so I have to assume this means PayPal has decided to dispute the case.

The box is ticked suggesting this is happening, so perhaps this means that Isadore did respond and her information isn't visible to me.  In any case, I hope I will have an answer soon, even though it says it may take up to 75 days.

So what the hell is this thing made of anyway?

I don't know what this topper is made of, and I would really like to know.  It has qualities of both synthetic and human hair, and some other qualities that don't seem to match either.  So what on earth is it?

1.  It is unnaturally shiny, like synthetic hair, even after lots of washes.

2.  It is a uniform colour and from root to tip, like synthetic hair, or dyed human hair.

3.  It does not tangle much, no matter what I do it.  It is strangely slippery, unlike synthetic OR human hair.  (I have an authentic virgin European hair topper from designbyflora.com, and it does not behave like this.  It is soft, but it tangles like real hair - because it is!)

4.  It has a red cast to it, like oxidized or colour processed human hair.

5.  It repels hair dye and hair bleach, like synthetic hair.

6.  It appears to melt when held over a candle, like synthetic hair (although one specialist told me this can also happen with highly processed human hair).

7.  It confuses various hair/wig experts, who seem to think it's real hair at first, and then become convinced it isn't after they try to work with it.  But it's good enough that they cannot determine what it is, in spite of being highly educated in this field.

It's a truly mysterious fiber!  Whatever could it be?

My guess is that it is some kind of blend of human hair and synthetic fibers, and that the human hair fibers are not "virgin" at all, but highly processed.  Maybe it is Indian or Mongolian hair?  I'm thinking it was a darker hair that was bleached a LOT to create that reddish hue, but also bathed in a chemical that made it lose its cuticles, because it is so slippery and non-tangly.  It may also have been coloured with textile dye, I am told, which could be the reason it won't take regular hair dye.

The funny thing is that it's a pretty nice product and if Isadore had gotten my colour right, I never would have known it wasn't virgin European hair!  The funny thing is that I would actually BUY this product again if:

a.  - it wasn't being sold by a woman who treated me like garbage after stealing from me
b.  - it wasn't being misrepresented, and I was to pay for its actual value

So I am left with a mystery that is unlikely to be solved.  Because I do not know what this topper is made of, I do not really know how to take care of it or how long it will last.  As time goes by I may learn more based upon how it ages.

On to step four

Step four of the chargeback process is the part where PayPal reviews the evidence submitted by Isadore to determine whether or not they want to defend her.  It is possible that I am misunderstanding what I see on my screen, but from my perspective it appears that Isadore has submitted no evidence in an attempt to prove she did not send me a fake hair piece.  I imagine this is because she could find nothing that would prove it, which is interesting because when she was growling at my lawyer via email she said it was very easy to prove her products were all authentic.  I suppose it is possible that PayPal just isn't showing me her "evidence", but this screen makes me think that she hasn't submitted anything at all.  PayPal now has thirty days (!!) to review this situation before deciding whether to support Isadore or make her pay me back.  During this time, I believe she is allowed to continue adding to her case - but I am not sure if that applies if she hasn't submitted anything at all within the first ten days.  It is also possible that Isadore has submitted things to PayPal and that I just don't have access to see them at this point.

Still no response from the Oracle

Isadore the Oracle still has not responded to my chargeback, which is mysterious.  As of today (and assuming I have counted the same way they do) she has two more days to respond before the case is found in my favour by default.  I am not sure why she has not responded, but I find it odd.  And in a strange way it is disappointing after the amount of work that went into gathering my evidence to prove my case that she has nothing to say!  Of course I should be pleased to have this end more quickly, but I'm truly amazed that the Oracle has not spoken.

Today my husband received a letter from our bank stating that they are aware of the chargeback (we share this credit card) and will inform us of their decision when it is made.  I wonder what the Oracle is up to.
